Just Plain Angry

Published by mom2six under Uncategorized Edit This

Every now and then I need to be reminded that I need to pick and choose my battles. Well today was one of those days. My husband and I are beefing tonight because we disagree on how to discipline our teenage nieces.

Today got off to a rocky start in my house. My two nieces made the decision to stay at home today from school. They decided since their hair wasn’t done and one of them had a tooth ache, that they could stay at home. That’s right I said their hair was not done. These two girls will find any excuse not to go to school. Well I felt that they needed to be punished for their decision. And in my house that means no TV and no computer. And my husband felt that they should be able to keep these privileges. And this my friends is where the argument comes into play.

My husband is angry because I punished the girls. And personally I don’t understand how he can basically reward them for their behavior. So, here I sit pissed as all hell with smoke coming out my ears. And it is all because he makes me feel like the bad guy for dealing out punishment. It is a double edged sword for me. Because on one hand I want to be fair to the girls, and be looked as cool, but they did need to be punished. My husband is a softee and the girls know it. They can cry to him and he gives in 99% of the time. But why make me out to be the bad guy when I did nothing wrong? I hate feeling like this too.

It’s bad enough that all my life I have felt like an outcast. And that I have never been a part of the popular crowd. But to feel like that in my own house is just wrong. I should not have to win any popularity contests to be liked. And I am not about to bend down and kiss anyone’s ass to be liked either.  So I guess the answer is just unknown right now. But I do know one thing for sure, I will continue to live my life the way I always have. And if it means that I will remain a part of the outcast crowd than so be it. Because I don’t care anymore.

A New Twist To Workouts

Published by mom2six under Uncategorized Edit This

midget-toss.jpg     A gym in Britain has added a new craze to the workout world. They are giving their customers a choice of weights to lift with. Now I am quite sure you are asking yourself what is new about that. Well they now can choose to use human weights. That’s right I said human weights.

The gyms owner Richard Hilton says ” It’s all about  visualising strength.” So, that is what I have been doing wrong all these years. I guess the mental warfare of knowing I was about to attempt to pick up that weighs as much as me wasn’t enough.  I need to actually see how big an object is before I pick it up,then I will feel like I am super strong.

They offer varying sizes of weights from a “Dainty Dwarf” that weighs 30 kg to the “Super Human” that weighs 155 kg. I don’t really think that something like this would last here in the U.S.  You would have some human rights group start protesting saying it was cruel and unusual punishment or demeaning to them. Personally I think it is a different way to attract customers. And I hope that they will be successful with it.

Car Thief Turns Into Goat???

Published by mom2six under Uncategorized Edit This

Police in Lagos, Nigeria have arrested a goat for car theft. That’s right, I said police arrest goat for car theft. It is a true story, there really is no way my imagination could think this one up.

It seems that two men were seen trying to steal a Mazda. The men fled when they were spotted and were eventually cornered. Now this is where the story turns bizarre. It seems that when one of the men was cornered he used black magic to transform into a goat. Now forgive me for saying this,  but what kind of cigarettes were these men smoking? I don’t think it was Newports my friend. And it gets even stranger. The police even paraded this goat around in front of journalists, and published a picture for the local paper.  The story goes on to mention that black magic is something that is widespread especially in rural areas.

Now considering the part of the world where this takes place, the story is almost totally believable. But then again, who’s to say that a little embellishment doesn’t go along way also.

Not Again

Published by mom2six under Uncategorized Edit This

I don’t believe it…….my darned hard drive crashed and burned again on my laptop. What a piece of crap.  I just don’t believe it has only been in the laptop for less than three weeks and this is the second time it has crashed and died. And let me tell you that I was literally minutes away from throwing it against a wall and smashing it into a million tiny pieces.

But my oldest child saved the day. He suggested that I Google how to format the hard drive. And as luck would have it, I found the perfect web site. It took me step by step, and wouldn’t you know it worked. It was relatively easy to do. It took a few minutes to reformat it, but it worked like a charm. Now for the painfully slow part……reinstalling all of the software.

What a pain in the butt. But I am so thrilled that I was able to fix it by myself. And I know my cousin will be tickled pink. And I am now seriously thinking about saving my pennies to purchase a newer laptop. One that doesn’t crash and burn every other day.

Well lots of hugs and kisses to my baby boy for helping me through yet another crisis in my online life.

A Place For Hello Kitty Fans

Published by mom2six under Uncategorized Edit This

Hello Kitty has taken over a maternity hospital in Taiwan. The hospital is completely decorated with Hello Kitty. And there is even a giant Hello Kitty figure dressed in pink scrubs that greets visitors in the lobby. Literally everything in this hospital from staff uniforms to blankets for the babies is Hello Kitty. And all this is supposed to serve as a way to soothe anxious mothers.

Hmmm soothing anxious mothers with Hello Kitty, how is this possible? I remember when I was in labor with  my kids, and I think the only thing that would have soothed me was heavy sedatives. I mean I have heard of painting rooms in pale colors to soothe people or even dim lighting, but Hello Kitty? I just don’t get it. What’s the attraction to this cartoon character? Maybe it does work for some people, but in my opinion they have gone way overboard with this. It borders on an obsession if you ask me. But to each his own, and if it works stick with it. All I can say is more power to them. And I hope they have lots of very relaxed mothers who have healthy, happy babies.

What An Incredible Day

Published by mom2six under Uncategorized Edit This

Today was one of those days that I will never forget. I watched the most incredible event on TV today. The swearing in of the 44 th president of The United States of America. It is another event in my life that I will always remember where I was, and what I was doing.

President Obama is everything this country has been waiting for. A true leader in every sense of the word. And the culmination of a dream come true for so many that struggled along the way. He is truly a peoples President. A man that speaks to the heart of the country. And he has inspired many to rethink their beliefs.  And today I truly believe that the road ahead will be fill with a ton of potholes and bumps. But he will lead us to do things that will restore this country to greatness.

May God Bless our Country and Our President Barack Obama and the First Family.

THe Weighting Game

Published by mom2six under Uncategorized Edit This

4551_obese_elephant_standing_on_a_weight_scale2.jpg  I am in a weight loss challenge right now at work.  The game is to see who can lose the most weight in a 60 day period. And boy do I have my work cut out for me.

I joined the challenge on Saturday by weighing in. And I was horrified when I stepped on the scale. I tipped the scales at a whopping 214.5 lbs. Eeeks it hurts just to type that. I have not been this heavy since I was pregnant with my daughter, and that was three years ago. And I want to win this challenge so bad I can taste it. But I have some obstacles to over come before I can cross the finish line as a winner.

The biggest obstacle for me is my eating habits.  And the sad thing is that I don’t know how to overcome it. I have discovered that I like to eat for comfort. It soothes my frazzled nerves after a long day at work. And it fills a void left by a marriage that is less than ideal. So, if it does all those things for me, how can I turn my back on my source of comort? Where do I begin to make the necessary changes if I find it to be such a source of comfort? Well the answer my friends, is that one way or another I have to find a way. I have to find a substitute to fill that void and to soothe my tired body.

And I realize that I have to start slowly. By avoiding my daily habit of noshing away mindlessly on snacks while on the computer or watching TV. And to get off of my lazy butt and start moving more. Sounds simple enough doesn’t it? Well I hope I can beat back my demons and win.

What A Virus

Published by mom2six under Uncategorized Edit This

There is a horrible virus running through my home.  It has already taken my youngest son and now my oldest son. And now I think it is trying to take over my body.

But it is that time of year again. The time of year when things sneak up on you like a mugger trying to take your wallet. And then it takes over your body and makes you feel like you were hit by a mack truck. And that is just what has happened to my oldest child. Only it hit him like a runaway freight train in the night. One day he was fine and the next he was so ill that he spent an entire day at the hospital. And he has been struggling ever since. After almost 6 days he is still suffering with headaches and dizziness so bad he spends all day laying down.

With any luck he will be back to normal in a few days. The doctor said that there is nothing that they can do for him. They just have to let the virus run it’s course. And in my house to be infected with any kind of virus can mean infecting everyone. To have 9 people in the house all sick at the same time is a scary thought. Especially if Mom gets sick, because we all know that Mom is the great medicine.

She wipes our noses and bravely risks getting sick herself to nurse her babies back to health. She goes out of her way to make sure we are comfortable. Now the question that pops into my head is, when Mom gets sick…….who will care for her?

This Is Crazy

Published by mom2six under Uncategorized Edit This

I read a story about a 13 yr old girl in California who sent a record 14,528 text messages in one month. All I could think was, this is nuts. They say the statement from the phone company was 440 pages long.

Now her father was dumbfounded to say the least. And of course thought that the phone company had made a mistake. But then they did the numbers, and it came out to a whopping 484 messages a day or one every two minutes.  This girl is so obsessed with texting she even was doing it at a birthday party. And the person she was texting was sitting next to her. Thank God her family got the unlimited phone plan. Because at .20 cents per message it would have cost them almost 3,000 U.S. dollars. Ouch, that hurts. I couldn’t imagine text messaging anyone that much.

The article then goes on to state some numbers like the average 13 to 17 yr old sends 1,742 messages a month. And the average adult only sends about 200 messages a month.  Who has that much free time on their hands. Have we really become that obsessed with our phones that we block out the rest of the world to send that many messages?

The good news is that her parents have set restrictions on her phone usage……no text messaging after dinner. Ya that is really a restriction. How about making her get a paper route or something and make her pay her own bill. Maybe then she will think twice about sending that many messages in one month.

Bad Timing

Published by mom2six under Uncategorized Edit This

Why is it that kids have the worst timing in the world? It always seems that my children have the most interesting things to say at all the wrong times. And believe me when I tell you, that with two children under the age of 6 yrs old, I understand this all to well.e give you an exampleLet me give you an example of their timing. The other night I was out doing my weeks grocery shopping and I had all three of my kids with me. We got all of the items that we needed, and when we were in the checkout line my 5 yr old had the bright idea to announce to everyone in line ” I FARTED”. I was dumbfounded and speechless. And everyone looked at me with the dirtiest looks. As if to say what are you teaching your children. All I could tell him was that it was not polite to say those things. And of course all he did was grin like the cat that just ate the mouse.
